When my kids grow up and leave home, they will be able to look after themselves.
At the tender ages of 6 and 8, they know how to make their bed, vacuum, fold their clothes and put them away, put washing in the machine, wash dishes, fill a dishwasher, make meals, among numerous other taks.
They’re not doing jobs because they have to earn their keep, or because we’re too lazy to do them. We aren’t being mean, giving them jobs, jobs are simply part of teaching them how to be adults. And that’s our jobs, to teach them.
And when it comes time for them to leave home, and move out on their own, I’ll smile through my tears, knowing that we gave them the best start to being independent that we could.
