A few deep breathes

On the way home from kindy today there was the smell of smoke, and I spotted the plume of it off in the distance. It was black and huge and gusting upwards. I thought it was miles away. I heard the sound of police, ambulance, fire engine.

As I turned into the next street I realised we were about to go straight past it. There at the side of the road stood a woman with 2 kids, little kids. She was in tears. Across the road was her house, flames and smoke bellowing out of the windows, I heard glass smashing, the firemen were everywhere.

No one was injured, the poor lady was just in shock. But wow, it took a few deep breaths not to burst into tears looking at her.

I guess it just made me think that things can always be worse.
