Service Review: Kitchenette – Highland Park

So we’ve been here a few times and it’s always nice. They have the best ginger slice, the people used to be really friendly, they seem to have changed more recently but still nice. They have a wall where you can write pleasant messages or draw a small picture. It’s pleasant reading through all the ‘… was here’ and ‘you have the best hot chocolates’ and such.

I kind of thought we’d found a new favourite – at least for when homestead was busy.

I’m not quite so sure now.

Today we were sitting, eating our slices and drinking our coffee. A staff member heads to the toilets. So far, no worries. Then, she comes back, towards the kitchen, carrying a sanitary bin.

Yes, through the café, past the customers, towards the kitchen carrying a bin potentially full of customers… well, I digress.

A few minutes later, she carries it back. Gross, we think, but ok, not a huge deal. I guess.

She then clears some tables. Ok, dirty dishes, unwashed hands – questionable, but maybe not the worst thing in the world.

She then starts serving customers, preparing their food and drinks.

I was very tempted to go and explain to the customers that they were ordering a yummy snack with a side of dirty dishes and…, well, you get the idea.

I didn’t. But I don’t know how I feel about going back.
